Daniel L. Shores is the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Shores & Oliver, P.C.  Dan also oversees the Firm's Litigation, Due Diligence & Opinions, and Technology Transactions practice groups. Â
Dan is a highly skilled and experienced IP lawyer who is passionate about providing premium and cost-effective services to his clients.  Dan has handled numerous complex IP matters for companies of all sizes throughout his career, from startups to Fortune 500 companies.  He is committed to providing services that add value and help his clients achieve their key business objectives.Â
Dan's experience includes in-depth litigation, due diligence, prosecution, and transactional work on matters concerning a broad range of technologies including, but not limited to, medical devices; fiber-optic probes for tissue investigation; glucose sensing technology; heat-treated glass with multilayer low-emissivity coatings; high throughput genetic seed chipping technology; pharmaceutical treatment of rhinitis with levocetirizine; genetically-modified cotton seed; antimicrobial skin moisturizer; automotive safety technology; grain conveyor belt systems; film scanner technology; elastomeric foam duct lining insulation; pressure-sensitive adhesives; pharmaceutical treatment of hepatitis B with telbivudine; tunable wireless capacitors for cellular phones; mass teleconference software; mobile services network platforms; website auto-complete search features; typeface font software; integrated electronic securities marketplace systems; and webpage incentive programs.
Prior to forming Shores & Oliver, P.C., Dan worked as an attorney at the global law firm Latham & Watkins, LLP and the intellectual property boutique firm Rothwell, Figg, Ernst & Manbeck, P.C., both in Washington, DC. He also served as an executive officer of the esteemed Giles S. Rich American Inn of Court, the nation's flagship Intellectual Property Inn of Court located at the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit in Washington, DC.Â
Dan has served on panels to discuss IP issues and been selected as a “Super Lawyers” “Rising Star" for IP in each of 2013, 2014, 2015, and 2016.  Dan is also a member of the Boston Bar Association and Boston Patent Law Association (“BPLA”) and serves on the BPLA’s Medical Devices Committee.
Dan received his Juris Doctor from The Georgetown University Law Center in Washington, DC and served on the Editorial Board of The Georgetown Law Journal.  Dan holds a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of New Hampshire where he specialized in materials science and was the team leader of an award-winning senior design project.
Dan is a registered patent attorney licensed to practice before the United States Patent & Trademark Office and is admitted to practice law in Massachusetts, the District of Columbia, and the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.
In the community, Governor Charles D. Baker recently appointed Dan to serve as a member of the Board of Trustees for Massachusetts Maritime Academy.  In that role, Dan and other Trustees are responsible for overseeing the management of the Academy which has an annual budget in excess of $50 million dollars.
